Treston students participate in DOST 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week

The whole Treston community is proud of its college students for representing Treston International College in the Reinventing Cities: Designing Smart and Sustainable Cities Pitching Competition during the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week in NCR with the theme: “Bridging Science, Technology, and Green Economy Solutions in the Metro” held last October 29 – 31, 2024 at Amoranto Sports Complex, Quezon City.

Bachelor in Multimedia Arts students Maridel Fermin, Mark Calisura, Deion Yao, and Robert Emil Madraga, and BS Information Technology student Cloud Julianne Luciano successfully pitched their presentation entitled: “Development of an Effective DIY Hydroponics System for Microgreens Production in Quezon City” which tackles the problem on food security caused by climate change, urbanization, and transportation in the city and how the DIY Hydroponics System will help in addressing the problem.

They were guided by the wisdom of their advisers: Engr. Allan Godfrey Sagun, College Officer-In-Charge and Head for School of Technology; Ms. Minerva Basilio, Head for School of Arts and Sciences; and college faculty members Mr. Esmundo Tonio and Mr. Jeff Ronald Rante.
The event sought to create a platform for college students to present innovative smart city designs that support sustainability and align with green economy principles. Participants were challenged to develop urban plans that combine technological innovation, environmental awareness, and economic feasibility.
